Hi Sarah. Thank you for talking to us today. I am pleased to have you here!
Can you please tell us a little about yourself?
Thanks so much for having me. I just published my debut novel Sunwalker, a YA Vampire Fiction with some romance, action and suspense. It is the first in a trilogy. I have three kids, a dog and a cat, along with a fantastic husband who puts with my writing obsession. I love hiking and being in the outdoors. I enjoy traveling, and Mexico is like my second home.
You enjoy hiking. Do you get any ideas for your writing when you are hiking?
I love being out in nature. I think all nature inspires me. God has created so much beauty. I just finished the first draft of a fantasy novel entitled The Portal Keeper. There are many different landscapes throughout the book, and new creatures, all of which have been influenced by the beauty this life has to offer.
You say that Mexico is your second home. Do you spend a lot of time there?
I haven’t been able to spend too much lately. My husband is from a small town called Patzcuaro in the state of Michoacán. It’s a lovely place. He has a lot of family down there. I am hoping maybe this next summer I will get to spend some time down there. I’d like to stay all summer and really immerse my children in the language and culture.
Are your books also in Spanish, or any other languages?
At present, this is sadly not an option, but I am hoping to remedy it. I am talks with a friend who is interested in helping me translate Sunwalker in to Spanish.
You say that ‘There are no limits in fantasy beyond my own imagination’. Does this mean that we have many more books from you to look forward to?
I hope many more. Currently I have two in editing. Nightwalker, the sequel to Sunwalker, and The Portal Keeper. I am also just feeling out a new idea…so who knows what’s to come.
The recent hurricanes were terrible. It is awful how so many lost everything that they had, some even their lives. How did they affect you?
I have been very blessed living in Dallas that I just enjoyed some rain. I have a niece who lives in Houston and was fortunate that she lived just outside any of the flooded areas. However, I have seen friends of friends who have lost everything. It is heart breaking. My husband along with members from my church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, are spending this weekend in Houston assisting in the clean-up efforts. I know there will be multiple trips, and many organizations going to down to help. This is going to take time, possibly years to recover from. I would ask everyone to please remember Texas. Pray for those effected by the hurricane, and donate to a trusted charity if you are able. I am also praying for those in the path of Irma, it seems like hurricane season is upon us, I am hoping it dies down before hitting Florida.
If you could walk in the shoes of one writer, then who would that be, and why?
There are so many amazing writers out there. One of my favorites is Brandon Mull. He is a phenomenal fantasy writer. I am sure he could give me lots of advice. As an author just starting out, everything is new to me, especially marketing. It is all trial and error.
Can you please tell us about your book?
Sure! Sunwalker is a different take on vampires. I delve a little more into their origins. Vampires occur through a rare genetic trait that gets passed down and occasionally results in a Sunwalker.
Lilly is a sunwalker—a vampire born from human parents, able to walk in the daylight. She lives life as a human, hiding her true identity from all those around her. The world has become aware of the existence of vampires and treats them as monsters, something that needs to be exterminated from the earth.
One evening, Lilly comes to the rescue of her best friend, Lex, as a vampire is about to make a meal out of her. Lilly is drawn to him, despite her desire to loathe him for almost murdering Lex, as he is the first of her kind she has ever met. As the vampire, Tread, begins to open Lilly’s eyes to a world she has never known, Lilly must decide where she belongs. After she is betrayed by the person she loves most, Lilly is forced to submerge herself entirely in the vampire world, only to discover that Tread has a secret so shocking it could destroy them all.
What is next for you as a writer?
Right now, I think it’s just to keep writing. Nightwalker, the second book in the Sunwalker Trilogy, is set to come out in Spring of 2018, followed by the Portal Keeper, hopefully Christmas of 2018. I hope to finish up the Sunwalker trilogy in 2019 with Darkwalker, and hopefully release the second book in The Portal Keeper series also. My main focus is just to have fun, and write stories I enjoy that people like to read. I just want to keep things simple.
Thanks for having me. If I can just add a thank you to all the readers out there, and please remember, when you read a good book take the time to review it. It means so much to an author! Thanks Again.
